East of Scotland Provincial Meeting

‘Good’ is often a term used to describe the condition of a horse racing ground as well as the quality of a masonic meeting. The two become linked when the brethren of East Lancashire visit Musselburgh – The venue for the East of Scotland OSM provincial meeting. So it was a fair bet this was going to be a great day out.

Our head, Christian A. Givvons and his Deputy Stephen P Holcroft were accompanied by Alan Edge, who was for many years the East Lancashire Secretary and Allan Shields, the head of the Scarlet Cord in East Lancashire. All had travelled up for this meeting. The masonic hall is situated next to the racecourse at Musselburgh and has stunning views across to the Firth of Forth.

The view was enjoyed from the local social club where the brethren met for coffee and sandwiches and made most welcome by Morgan McDonald, the head of the order in East Scotland and his Deputy Martyn Greene. There was a good turnout of heads of other provinces as well as visiting brethren and members of East ScotlandChris Givvons is known to be partial to a Saturday morning on the golf course so felt very much at home with some of the golfing memorabilia on display including a painting of a golfer doing what Chris enjoys – swinging a club!

After a short walk to the masonic hall the brethren assembled ready for the start of the meeting. Morgan conducted his meeting in fine style discharging the provincial business and investing and appointing his team for the following year. It was great to be back together again following a long disruption caused by the covid pandemic.
Back at the social club the harmony continued with a fine meal, good wines and an ample supply of port.
Morgan held a raffle as well as an auction which raised funds for a trust researching into pancreatic cancer. This concluded what had been a most enjoyable day, a real winner for everyone who attended.
